[1970] The Sun Also Rises - Death
listen to the song:

The beginning of this terrific track could be like the soundtrack of a surreal and strange movie in the vein of Holy Mountain or El Topo. But for you all, who are familiar with psychedelic folk music, this will be tagged as freaky acid folk ;-). All in all you can compare this one to a mix of Hanna Tuuliki's Nalle and Susan Duncan-Smith's masterpiece for the soundtrack of Keoma. If you wondered, what this duo called "The Sun Also Rises" did on the rest of their debut, I think it's the best to quote my friend Mad Hatter's words: "The husband and wife duo from Cardiff have captured moods by patterns of sound and words. Totally influenced by the Incredible String Band, the album offers whimsical, acoustic acid folk, with weird, disjointed hippie lyrics about a fantasy world of mythological beings such as fairies, elves and dragons. It’s a charming period piece."

[1971] Deuter - Krishna Eating Fish And Chips

Georg Deuter established himself in the early 70's and is known to most of you for his involvment in the Krautrock genré. His early recordings are mostly built up of Acid Folk elements, eastern influences and experimental music. Today he is living in the staates and earns his money with recording meditation CD's that are related to practice and points of view teached by Osho. sadly those are the albums I can't get into. they consist of this "all-is-peaceful-and-happy-if-you-clean-this-ashram-and-visit-your-familiar-esoteric-shop-regularely-to-buy-new-age-stuff"-vibe. that doesn't mean necessarily that I think he is not authentic, but there is too much commerce about angels, tarot, gurus, ... these days it's maybe harder than ever to deal with this contents as there are too much dodgers and moneymakers out there. another issue of this new age scene is, that it's hard to dive deeper into the material by consuming all those goods that are praised to give you the "ultimate-enlightment-trip" ... you see, I'm very careful about stuff thats directly associated with this commerce. and it's probably the easiest to move out into the forest, climb a tree, prais mother earth, and be flashed by spirituality gleaming through the cosmos.
gladly this track is not as flat as the other ones he later did.... the album "D" where this song is taken from can be tagged as a real psychedelic record I think. a weird mix of Acid Folk, Psychedelic Rock and Experimental Jams will await you on it. so just forget about everything and let you take away by this swirl of mind expansion...

[1969] Jan & Lorraine - Gypsy People
listen to the song:
Jan & Lorraine are a British duo (Jan Hendin and Lorraine Lefevrereleased), that released this song on their 1969 album "Gypsy People". Sitar and a mix of british acid folk and american psychedelic folk with those sweet female voices. It's great and I would say, enjoy it, go out in nature and let it play again in your mind and connect with the universe, ... greetings, amadeus :)

[1966] Big Jim Sullivan - She Walks Through The Fair
listen to the song:
In 1967/68, Big Jim Sullivan from the Middlesex, UK managed to record three very groovy Sitar albums. Sadly this was not meant to hold on. He played as a session-musician and did every sucking job he could get. Well, he played for the Hermint's Hermint's and the Kinks in studio, but it looks like that was only a job for him, nothing a idealist would be happy with. So it came that he even played 9 years for James Last, what is really strange while thinking back of those three first Sitar-Psych LP's. Anyway, this song is just a damn good piece of Acid Folk, enjoy!

[1970] Linda Perhacs - Chimacum Rain
listen to the song:
In 1970 Linda Perhacs created a wunderful album called "Parallelograms".
'Chimacum Rain' is only one of many awesome tunes on this LP. Soft psychedelia &
Acid Folk tingles along accompanied by trippy femal vocals and soft guitarplay. Enjoy!

[1968] Boeing Duveen & The Beautiful Soup - Which Dreamed It

as promised, the second side of the single "Jabberwocky/Which Dreamed It" (Parlophone R 5696, A - May 1968). This one sounds not as the other song, it's really fine acid folk. Sitar, flute, water and soft male voices, sounding a bit like Amber. well, I just can say, get that song and the single, listen to it and fall into a deep trip in mind! Get it here:
http://www.megaupload.com/?d=XTYTAK4D
Enjoy! greetings, amadeus :)
"Boeing Duveen & The Beautiful Soup was the mastermind of Sam Hutt (later; Hank Wangford - more info's...), known by the British sixties counterculture as a "rock & roll doctor" who administered to musicians and practiced homeopathy and holistic medicine. He also dealt with drug casualties at rock festivals." ~"Tapestry of Delights Revisited by Vernon Joynson

Introduction... about the future of the Psychedelic Jukebox
Hi folks,
about 4 years ago, I started this blog with the intention to share psychedelic art with all of you, adding some thoughts here and there, recommend some stuff, ... Yet it have been only songs - (mostly) - that I posted. For the future I'm planning A.) to post more regularely, B.) also to post video's/trailers/etc., psychedelic visual arts/drawings/so called digital-art (photo-"manipultion" etc.), introducing artists and performers C.) I'm also planning to post news about my two projects; my record label for Psych Rock & Acid Folk, called "Merlins Nose Records" and my shop "Surreal Peppermint Store", which is dedicated to supply you with "Psychedelic Delights for Body and Mind"!
Since a lot of mp3's are down and I have to re-upload them again, I will try to post one new post per week and restore one of the old posts and adding them to the top.
I'm excited to get this blog more active and I'm also glad about every feedback I do get on topics or whatever...

[1971] Rainbow Band - Now is the Time
listen to the song:
Great US Acid Folk performed by The Rainbow Band. Although this is not the same as the Rainbow
Band (a.k.a. Midnight Sun) from Denmar, it's quite a mystery to me, why this LP didn't make it more
to the top than it actually did. This is the typical kind of "late-60s-krishna-sai-baba-cult-hippy-
commune-pot-smoking-meditating" album, like Sadhu Brand, Kali Bahlu, The Comfortable Chair etc.
... Groovy mind blown voices, singing about cosmic matters, let them take you away on a journey...

[1974] Silmaril - Voyage of Icarus
listen to the song:
While others buzzed within the hippie epicenters of Haight Street and the Lower East Side, Silmaril formed in haunted, industrial Milwaukee. Other bands might have met at a love-in; Silmaril were friends from a Catholic youth retreat bound together by a doomed figure in the eccentric madman tradition of Syd Barrett, Roy Harper and Mel Lyman by the name of Matthew Peregrine. The Voyage of Icarus captures the dark, mysterious, and achingly beautiful acid folk & Christian themed psychedelic sounds that emanated from 1973's privately pressed album, Given Time... Or the Several Roads, and their dormant, unreleased follow up No Mirrored Temple. (~Clear-Spot)

[1994] Klaus der Geiger & Die Koelner Strassenmusiker - Flughafen Wahn
listen to the song:
well, Klaus der Geiger is just great! I saw him live once at the Burg Herzberg Festival. "Flughafen Wahn" is a fantastic piece of Acid Folk! just listen to it. Enjoy!

Lyrics:
Flugsicherheit, alles klar, blabla, wunderbar."
Was muss denn noch passiern,
dass wir Das kapiern

[1969] John & Philipa Cooper - Magical Fingers of Minerva
listen to the song:
John and Philipa Cooper came from Johannesburg in South Africa. But they were not alone, ... Julian Laxton (lead guitar), Art de Villiers (acoustic guitar), Bob Hill (bass), Werner Krupski (keyboards), Francesco (fiddle), Ivor Back (drums), Rory Blackwell (tambourine) helped them out, so they had a nice band together. to categorize their music, I would propose to call it droney acid folk. Someone is playing sitar and robust bass lines are holding the trancy vocals and the psychedelic organ.

[1967] The Id - The Inner Sound Of The Id
listen to the song:
"The Inner Sounds of the Id" is an ablum compareable to "How To Blow Your Mind & Have A Freak Out Party" by the Unfolding. The album features Westcoast Hippie Psychedelic Rock as well as hindu/eastern influenced Acid Folk. Both records are milestones, even if they are quite unknown to a lot of people that are into that kind of music. So if you never listened to one of them, it's time now to do so!

[1971] Witthueser & Westrupp - Orienta
listen to the song:
Withüser & Westrupp were a German acid folk and kraut duo, singing songs
with dreamy psychedelic lyrics. This song is about, well, find it out yourself:

I will try to translate:
On the search of a new way
we are knoking on heavens door
a man named Petrus opened very gently
and he asked: "Are you the guys, that should come,
and bring us the shit?"
we scratch out, all we knew, even us
and we enter, into the eternal spring
we see the heavenly host
with their eternal joints, sitting on their clouds
and their singing rised inexorable in the hands of the sun
the seven archangel bringin' us our eternal joints
and together we floating to the indeciduous love-meadow
and we join in into the canticle of the angles on Lordid Drack(?)

...great guitar play, a lot of small instruments, stoned, in a trance - a whole chor. Enjoy!

[1967] Bill Plummer & Cosmic Brotherhood - Journey to the East

The cover doesn't look like what is inside! Flying trough the desert, a sitar on your fold, riding in coloured clouds of acid fog. One of the finest Psych Folk I ever heared! you can download the complete album on Dr. Schluss' Garage Of Psychedelic Obscurities. Enjoy! greetings, amadeus :)
